We are currently seeking to hire a cryo-EM Core Specialist to assist in the daily operations of our state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__cryoemcore.vai.org_&d=DwIFAg&c=-35OiAkTchMrZOngvJPOeA&r=L7-zyQ-04fFCMRqzLIOnx7H0exGZHwIQe_wMPuY600I&m=Y4ft2dDxN28eBsh2vUJ4HmPkoNHxkkF-rSDqmoRipN3-4lXnqHyiR50WBiy5gUbw&s=u-eOvo23C9xwf4YLH1NYQJpftRb-wo-V0u0YIYRwyqw&e= >, which includes the latest Titan Krios microscope. The cryo-EM Core provides both transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and cryo-EM sample preparation and data collection services to researchers.



As our cryo-EM Core Specialist, you will work with the cryo-EM Core Manager and will be responsible for the following Key Areas:


*         Prepare sample with fixation, dehydration, staining and embedding for transmission electron microscopy; use an ultramicrotome with a diamond knife for routine thin sectioning.
*         Prepare sample with high-pressure freezing, freeze substitution, use cryo-ultramicrotomy for thin sectioning.
*         Prepare sample for Immuno-electron microscopy.
*         Maintains all supplies at adequate levels according to user program needs.
*         Cleans and organizes laboratory spaces, equipment and supplies.
*         Operate hardware associated with EM data collection such as microscope, electron detector.
*         Record projects and experimental conditions in an electronic laboratory notebook.
*         Communicate experimental details with the users and other relevant project team members.
*         Help users prepare the experimental method section in resulting publications.
*         Other duties as assigned.



What skills and qualifications should you possess?


*         We would expect you to possess a Bachelor's or Master's or Ph.D. Degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
*         3 - 5 years of hands-on experience in TEM sample preparation is required and ideally you would be familiar with modern electron microscopes, electron detectors, and EM data collection procedures.
*         Experience in a core or shared resource laboratory
