Dear All,

The Department of Chemical Physiology & Biochemistry at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, USA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position from individuals interested in applying structural biology techniques to solve pressing questions in cancer, cell biology and/or physiology.

OHSU offers a highly interactive research environment and immediate access to core facilities for numerous imaging modalities, deep sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, and more.
Function/Duties of Position
Our collaborative work is guided by the application of advanced quantitative technologies to increase our understanding of multi-scale molecular and cellular assemblies that are functionally important in cancer genesis, progression and therapeutic response as well as in bacterial and viral infections, diabetes, and coronary heart disease. Multiscale light and electron microscopy resources and advanced computing and storage are available via OHSU university shared resources and the OHSU-PNNL National Center for cryo electron microscopy (by competitive application). Responsibilities include:

  * Develop and manage a well-funded, independent and vibrant research program
  * Develop, prepare and oversee competitive funding proposals
  * Publish and present research findings
  * Develop and foster strong collaborations with researchers within the department, university, and externally
  * Contribute to the teaching of graduate and medical students
  * Participate in faculty, department, and/or university governance and administrative activities
  * Participate in professional development functions such as conferences, editorial boards, professional organizations and study groups
  * The appointee shall provide additional duties as assigned by the Chair in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service
Competitive applicants will have a research record in structural biology, biophysics, physical chemistry or a closely related discipline, and demonstrated ability to acquire independent funding. The department already hosts five PIs performing cryo-EM based structural biology, who are part of the wider structural biology community at the Vollum Institute, the Knight Cancer Institute and the School of Dentistry at OHSU.
Required Qualifications

  * M.D. or PhD in related field
  * Track record of excellent publications
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to an independent research program aimed at elucidation of the structure and function of cancer related proteins and protein complexes using single particle cryo-electron microscopy, cryo-electron tomography, and/or correlative light and electron microscopy. Demonstrated expertise in cryo-electron tomography is of particular interest to the department and OHSU.
