Dear EM aficionados,

The Paulino group has an open PhD position (possibly also PostDoc) available to join our team at the University of Groningen, NL.
Our research is focused on elucidating the structure-function relationship and the mechanism of action of membrane transporters. In our interdisciplinary approach we employ cryo-EM and complement our findings with comprehensive functional studies. Please read more about our group on:
https:// <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.membraneenzymology.com/__;!!Mih3wA!SbR9Sd4G7LJ7-VTKGGCUsqqC67-WjPYJ3_W1AIkUFXNJNXWLa4XvEy5tgueVfRLvPQ$ >paulinolab.com <https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.paulinolab.com/__;!!Mih3wA!SbR9Sd4G7LJ7-VTKGGCUsqqC67-WjPYJ3_W1AIkUFXNJNXWLa4XvEy5tguf1cFdxtw$ >

We are specifically looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a keen interest in structural biology and transport mechanisms, preferably with prior experience in cryo-EM and/or membrane proteins, to join (among others) our studies on the osmoregulatory ABC transporter OpuA. This work is shared with the lab of Bert Poolman. See our recent work:

The Paulino group is embedded within the membrane enzymology unit where we share our labs with the renowned groups of Bert Poolman and Dirk Slotboom (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.membraneenzymology.com__;!!Mih3wA!SbR9Sd4G7LJ7-VTKGGCUsqqC67-WjPYJ3_W1AIkUFXNJNXWLa4XvEy5tgueX1GCZkA$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.membraneenzymology.com/__;!!Mih3wA!SbR9Sd4G7LJ7-VTKGGCUsqqC67-WjPYJ3_W1AIkUFXNJNXWLa4XvEy5tgueVfRLvPQ$ >). You will benefit from the strong interdisciplinary interaction in a supportive, international and diverse environment. As the head of the cryo-EM unit you will be thoroughly trained in sample preparation, microscope operation and image processing and have access to fully equipped and successfully running EM facilities.

While the vacancy in my group is primarily a PhD position, experienced postdocs with a track-record in cryo-EM and membrane proteins are welcome to apply and send me a direct email: c.paulino at rug.nl <mailto:c.paulino at rug.nl>

Application deadline is June 1, tentative start October 2021.

Please spread the word.
All the best,
Cristina
