Cryo-Electron Microscopy Instrumentation Specialist
Job Summary

The Purdue Cryo-EM Facility is seeking to hire a Senior Cryo-Electron
Microscopist/Instrumentation Specialist to help with the operation of a
second newly purchased Titan Krios equipped with a K3 direct electron
detector. The facility currently houses a Titan Krios and a Talos F200C,
both equipped with direct detectors.



The new Titan Krios will be run as part of a consortium that includes
Purdue and multiple partner institutions in Indiana and Illinois. The
microscopist will be responsible for the daily operation of the microscope,
collecting data for partners, training users, scheduling sessions for all
partner institutions, and billing through Purdue’s shared facility
management system.


Required:

   - PhD degree in science  with a focus on structural biology
   - At least three years of experience in Cryo-Electron Microscopy
   - Skills and experience in operating an electron microscope
   - Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) in order to
   communicate with users and other team members in an effective and
   professional way



Preferred:

   - Extensive experience in operating and maintaining an electron
   microscope that enables the training of new users, as well as ability to
   troubleshoot imaging issues
   - Experience with cryo-EM reconstructions and model building in EM
   density maps using established software
   - Knowledge of Linux operating systems and basic knowledge of
   programming languages such as Python
   - Proven time management and organizational skills that show proficiency
   in meeting deadlines, setting goals and identifying deficiencies
