Two postdoc or research scientist positions in structural biology and biophysics of infectious disease are available in the Lee group at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Our over-arching goal is to harness structural and biophysical approaches to understand dynamic host-pathogen interactions in the context of intact viruses and cells. We use cryo-electron tomography, single particle cryo-EM, and H/D-exchange mass spectrometry to directly image and probe membrane fusion in a range of enveloped viruses. These techniques enable us to capture structural intermediates and monitor fusion protein activation as well as membrane remodeling during this exceptionally dynamic process. Additional projects investigate the host infection machinery used by eukaryotic parasites.

Experience in cryo-EM/ET with single-particle or sub-tomogram averaging is highly desirable, though candidates with expertise in biophysical, structural, or computational modeling methods are also encouraged to apply. Opportunities for training in additional techniques and collaborations in virology and immunology are available.

Positions are funded and available for start as soon as December 2020.
