[3dem] issues with liquid nitrogen tanks

Dear Bert,

I had same experience at UC Davis. We are using the star-watch version of the tank and sometime it was delivered with 14psi. So, there are two options for you. One is to talk to the nitrogen delivery guy. In our case, he also refills our nitrogen tank. He told me that he intentionally reduced the pressure to minimize the waste. I then told he to increase the pressure to the maximum 22 psi. Since then, our tank are always full and functional. The other way is to manually build up the pressure by opening the "pressure building valve". This will slowly increase the pressure but takes some time. In some case it never reach to 22 psi. I was also told by the LN delivery guy that user should label the bad tanks so they can adjust the pressure accordingly. If you do not report, they never know which tank is good and which one is bad.

Hopefully thin can help you.

Best,

Fei Guo

Dear all,

We would like to draw your attention to the EMBO workshop on "Molecular Neurobiology", taking place on the beautiful island of Crete on 8-12 May 2020.

The meeting brings together world leading scientists, group leaders and young researchers with a keen interest in the latest science occurring at the interfaces of structural biology, biophysics, molecular & cellular imaging and neuroscience. Given its cross-disciplinary nature, the meeting presents a broad overview of molecular neurobiology, ample opportunities for discussions and a sneak peak into the latest developments.

See http://meetings.embo.org/event/20-molneuro for more information and application guidelines.

Best wishes

Bert

Hello fellow 3dem-ers,

We are experiencing quite an annoying situation with Airgas and I am wondering if other folks have had similar problems and what potential solutions are.

We have a custom manifold from Chart to deliver liquid nitrogen to our Talos Arctica that can be equipped with two 240L tanks, each with 22 psi pressure. This should help reduce the LN2 waste and be more efficient, and when our tanks are good, it really is amazing. BUT, some of the time Airgas gives us tanks that we cannot use as the pressure never builds beyond 10 psi and we have to return full tanks. They are not the nicest about this either ?

We know the manifold is working correctly, and that it is caused by individual bad tanks. Has anyone else had crappy tanks? Do people just buy their own tanks and have them refilled instead of swapped?

Unfortunately, in Michigan Airgas is our only option, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kristin
