Dear 3dem group,

Just a reminder about the XXVI Biennial PVA meeting, held this summer in Brainerd, Minnesota. This meeting celebrates phages, viruses, and has a strong cryo-EM focus on assemblies related to phage and virus biology. This is a trainee-focused meeting and we encourage abstract submission from students and postdocs to give oral or poster presentations. Note, the program is not set yet, as we do not officially “invite” speakers, but instead select from submitted abstracts.

PVA 2019 is only 7 weeks away!! The website for the XXVI Biennial PVA meeting is now updated with information about abstract submissions (including a template and a submission portal), a tentative schedule, and information regarding potential travel awards for trainees. Registration will remain open until May 30th. Abstracts are not due until June 15th. If you would like to attend but cannot register by Friday, email us and we will try and get an extension on rooms at the site.

A shuttle service is available for transportation to and from the Minneapolis/Saint Paul (MSP) airport and the conference site in Brainerd. We placed a link on the conference website where we would like you to tell us if you need this shuttle service .... Let us know your arrival plans here: https://pvaconference.wixsite.com/pva2019/travel-information

Finally, as many of you already may know, the PVA community lost one of its most outstanding members with the passing of Dr. Michael Rossmann. Michael was a great intellect, colleague, and friend to many. His absence from this year's PVA will be deeply felt. We plan to honour his memory during the meeting and ask that you consider providing any remembrances and photographs of Michael from his many years at PVA. These will be compiled and shared at the meeting, and forwarded to his family as a way to share our memories of Michael and offer our support during this time of loss. Please send River (Xiao, Chuancxiao at utep.edu<mailto:cxiao at utep.edu>) any photos you might like to share, or contact him if you wish to speak about Michael during our session.
Thank you and looking forward to seeing you in Minnesota,
Kristin and Paul
