Dear all,

We are happy to announce that our group is moving to the University Medical Center Göttingen, and that we have open PhD, postdoc and senior scientist positions!

The goal of the Fernandez-Busnadiego lab is to unravel the structural basis of fundamental cellular mechanisms, as well as their alterations in human disease. To that end, we employ multidisciplinary approaches pivoting on state-of-the art cryo-electron tomography (see e.g. Bäuerlein et al., Cell 2017<https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28890085>; Guo et al., Cell 2018<https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29398115>; Collado et al., bioRxiv 2019<https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/578427v1>). A world-class EM setup including a high-end 300 kV cryo-TEM and a cryo-FIB will be available.

The Fernandez-Busnadiego lab is part of the Cluster of Excellence "Multiscale Bioimaging: from Molecular Machines to Networks of Excitable cells" (MBExC). MBExC is an interdisciplinary, cross-faculty research center that pursues a novel research approach with joint efforts in modern bioimaging, in particular photonics, molecular biosciences, neuroscience, and cardiovascular research. The goal of MBExC is to decipher disease-relevant nanoscale functional units in neurons, sensory cells, and cardiomyocytes with the long-term goal to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for disorders affecting the heart and the brain, or both. By a multiscale bioimaging approach, MBExC aims at unraveling fundamental biological principles at an increasing level of complexity from molecular, nanoscale, to network and organ levels. MBExC relies on a close collaboration between the University Medical Center Göttingen, the faculties of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Biology of the University, the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research e.V. (DZHK), the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases e.V. (DZNE), and the Max Planck Institutes for Biophysical Chemistry, Experimental Medicine, and Dynamics and Self-Organization.

The following positions are immediately available:

· PhD student, with background in cell or structural biology.

https://www.umg.eu/karriere/stellenangebote/stellenanzeigen-detail/?jobId=2749

· Postdoc, with background in cell or structural biology. Experience in cryo-EM is advantageous but not required.

https://www.umg.eu/karriere/stellenangebote/stellenanzeigen-detail/?jobId=2747

· Senior EM Scientist, with PhD-level experience in electron microscopy (cryo-EM or material science) and deep knowledge of TEM hardware. Programming skills are desirable. He/she will oversee the operation of the microscopes, maintain optimal performance of the systems, train users and work on collaborative projects within MBExC. An independent research program, especially in terms of cryo-FIB/ET method development, is strongly encouraged. It is further expected that the candidate participates actively in the educational program of the Hertha Sponer College of MBExC. The position can become permanent after an initial period.
