[3dem] Stackexchange ?

At the time, there was also a general Bioimage Analysis proposal, which
worked against us as the Area 51 admins thought there might be significant
overlap. That proposal is also now deleted.

If we can try again and attempt to maintain engagement enough to pass the
requirements, there are so many advantages vs. the mailing list format.

- Superior archiving and search
- Superior formatting (references, links, embedded images, code blocks w/
highlighting, all standardized and easily entered using Markdown)
- Editing of past posts, including collaborative editing (i.e. other users
can help you format)
- Eliminating/combining duplicates (it even suggests similar past entries
while writing a new question)
- Live chat to hash out answers
- Easy post sharing by sending permanent links (no username / registration
required to view)

Archiving and search plus graceful handling of duplicate questions are the
most important aspects in my opinion.

Finally, (in my opinion) having a stackexchange would make the mailing
lists *stronger* as well, by enabling them to focus on the things email is
good at, like professional communications, extending discussions,
organizing, and so forth.

Best,
