Dear Colleagues,

The deadline for paper submission for Microscopy & Microanalysis 2018
has been extended to Tuesday Feb. 20, 11:59 PM US Pacific time.

We would like to bring to three of the 3DEM-related symposia at M&M
2018. M&M 2018 will be held August 5-9, 2018 in Baltimore, MD.

B03: 3D Structures: from Macromolecular Assemblies to Whole Cells (3DEM FIG)
Organizers: Joaquin Ortega, Michael Radermacher, Teresa Ruiz
Topics:
•Structural studies of biological systems using cryo-EM techniques and
hybrid methodologies
•Cellular architecture, metabolism, trafficking, communication and division
•Gene regulation, transcription and translation
•Host-pathogen interactions including bacterial adhesion, motility, and
secretion
•Virus-host interactions and virus structure
•In situ TEM and SEM of biological specimens

B08: 3D Structure of Complex Soft Materials Derived From Electron Tomography
Organizers: Deborah Kelly, Steven Ludtke, Elizabeth Wright
Topics:
•The use of electron tomography (ET) to interrogate biological and soft
materials specimens
•Advancements in tomographic specimen preparation
•Correlative microscopy – stronger together: LM/EM, AFM/EM, X-ray/EM, AP/EM
•New tools to achieve correlative microscopy with minimal artifacts
(e.g. tags)
•Cutting edge developments in the integration of correlative/
tomographic data
•Advances in 3D reconstruction techniques: from sub-volume averaging to
high-resolution structures

A13: Pushing the Limits of Cryo-EM
Organizers: Mike Marko, Anchi Cheng
Topics:
•Sample preparation, including cryo-FIB
•EM instrumentation (cameras, phase plates, automation)
•Image processing for single-particle and tomographic reconstruction
•Applications using cutting-edge technology

The meeting showcases the latest technical and scientific developments
in the field of microscopy and microanalysis. Of great interest are also
tutorials, Sunday short courses, and additional interesting symposia.
