Dear friends and EM specialists,
Ken had so many creative ideas and produced most insightful contributions
to our field. He came to ETH Zurich as young postdoc
in the seventies. As I vaguely remember his task was to visualise DNA and
read off the sequence of specifically tagged bases.
As a Fourier optics wizard he had a visionary idea for determining the
position of heavy atoms hooked to the DNA using the phase
information buried in axial bright field micrographs. At that time such
measurements had to be done on an optical bench...
Ken inspired us in many ways, not only as scientist but even more as a
great human being.
My deep condolences to Ken’s family and friends.
