[3dem] Sad news about Ken Downing

Thank you. Those pictures are so precious. I never knew the mustache….
One of the pictures that Eva sent was from 2003, at the 3DEM GRC; the Downing alumni.
The second picture was from February 2014, at the “Downing Symposium” at LBL. He was very happy.

Dear All

Let me share with you - in his memory - this picture of a young Ken Downing that I took when we first met in March 1977 at the EMBO course in Basel, organized by Ueli Aebi and the late Ross Smith. The second picture is Ken in vivid discussion with Ueli Aebi over a slide on the overhead projector.
If I remember correctly we discussed, at that meeting, the transfer properties of a microscope system equipped with a half-aperture.
