2 year PDRA post, Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell-Matrix Research, University of Manchester, UK. Closing date 2nd July 2017.

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell-Matrix Research, integrated with the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University of Manchester brings together the world’s largest team of Primary Investigators studying cell-matrix interactions and provides access to excellent Core Facilities for mass spectrometry, biomolecular analysis and microscopy. Supported by generous funds from the Wellcome Trust, and building on the collaborative culture and excellence in training and technology development in the Centre, our goals are to elucidate pioneering concepts in cell-matrix research, and use these understand the basis of fibrosis. To spearhead this initiative we are funding four pilot projects, each driven by a postdoctoral associate. These posts are funded for 2 years, in the first instance, with the possibility for a third year of funding. Each project is expected to attract external funding after the initial pilot phase.

One of these posts is in cryoEM to generate structures of cell-matrix assemblies. Across the WTCCMR, there are a number of projects ideally suited for structure determination by cryoEM, these include projects on structural matrix proteins, scaffolding proteins and signalling/adhesion complexes. The PDRA would work closely with a range of labs across the WTCCMR to facilitate sample preparation, data collection and processing for cryoEM single particle analysis projects.
