It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing away of Carolyn Cohen on Dec. 20.

Carolyn was Professor Emerita of Biology at Brandeis, having retired in 2012 after a long career making major contributions to our understanding of the structure, assembly, and dynamics of muscle proteins. A personal view of her career is available in a two-part "scientific autobiography" in Journal of Biological Chemistry:

  * Seeing and Knowing in Structural Biology<http://www.jbc.org/content/282/45/32529.long> (2007)
  *   Mrs. Professor<https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3173190/> (2011)
The biology department at Brandeis is gathering reminiscences about her which are being posted at
http://blogs.brandeis.edu/science/2017/12/20/carolyn-cohen-structural-biology-pioneer/

    If you have a story or remembrance you'd like to share, please send it to Steve Karel karel at brandeis.edu<mailto:karel at brandeis.edu>, along with a sentence giving him permission to post it.

Although she primarily was a crystallographer, there are many of us on this list serve that either did electron microscopy in her lab and/or worked closely with her.
