The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for Cryo-Electron Microscopy at Johns Hopkins seeks qualified applicants for a Facility Manager position.

The Facility Manager will help support a highly-diverse user community across the Johns Hopkins University. The facility, which is housed at the School of Medicine and will include a new FEI Titan Krios equipped with a Gatan K2 direct detection camera, is slated to open January, 2018. The Facility Manager will work with an advisory board of faculty to oversee operations and user training. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting users with sample and grid preparation for 3D cryoEM analysis
• Day-to-day instrument operation, including image acquisition and microscope maintenance
• Providing user support for image processing and for structure analysis, model building, and validation
• Consulting with users on project design
• Overseeing facility management, service contacts, and biannual user training workshops

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field, and at least five years of extensive hands-on experience in cryo-electron microscopy, including biological sample preparation, image processing, and structure modeling. Candidates with core facility management or cryoEM engineer/application scientist experience are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal communication skills and be able to effectively work with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of scientific and cultural backgrounds. Grant writing experience is not required, but will be valuable for preparing collaborative and shared instrumentation grants with Hopkins faculty.

Applicants should email a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief summary (< 1 page) describing their relevant research experience in cryoEM, and names and contact information for three references to IBBS-BBC at jhmi.edu<mailto:IBBS-BBC at jhmi.edu>. Application reviews will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Salary and the nature of the appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Johns Hopkins University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to recruiting, supporting, and fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, staff, and students.
