A proposal for an NIH Common Fund program for "Transformative High Resolution Cryo-Electron Microscopy" continues to advance through the Phase 2 strategic planning process (https://commonfund.nih.gov/planningactivities/overview-planning#spupdate). This proposal includes plans to develop funding opportunities for support of single particle cryoEM and cryoET user facilities, training and technology development.

Dr. Jon Lorsch, Director of the National Institute for General Medical Sciences, has presented the proposal to the NIH Council of Councils. His September 9, 2016 presentation can be viewed at the following web site starting at the time 3:09:02 (https://videocast.nih.gov/Summary.asp?Live=13951&bhcp=1).

If the initiative is approved by NIH leadership and if funds are available, initial funding for cryoEM national centers may begin as early as FY 2017, which would require an FOA to be published and applications received in a corresponding timeframe. Please disseminate as appropriate. For questions, please contact me.
