Dear Colleagues,
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Vinzenz Unger, located on the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University in Chicago. The work will focus on the high-resolution structure determination of membrane proteins that are involved in cellular copper homeostasis. Specifically, the work will extend our previous electron crystallographic work on the human copper transporter hCTR1 both in isolation as well as in complex with the intracellular copper chaperone CCS that catalyzes transfer of copper to its cellular target Cu,Zn-Superoxide Dismutase 1, SOD1. The structural work will be complemented by functional mechanistic and cellular studies to generate an integrated understanding of copper movement across membranes and intracellular copper distribution.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in interdisciplinary studies of complex molecular processes and already have significant experience in either membrane protein biochemistry (expression and purification) or electron microscopy and image processing. The position is fully funded for two years, including help by technical support personnel to accelerate progress. The appointee will be expected to seek independent funding after arrival.

Inquiries can be directed to Vinzenz (v-unger at northwestern.edu<mailto:v-unger at northwestern.edu>). Candidates that wish to apply should directly send a cover letter, current CV, and list of references to Vinzenz, or apply through the NU job openings page: https://nuhr.northwestern.edu/psp/hr91prod_er/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM.HRS_CE.GBL?Page=HRS_CE_JOB_DTL&Action=A&JobOpeningId=29542&SiteId=1&PostingSeq=1

For applicants from the US, selection will involve an in person interview in Chicago.
