Postdoctoral Position jointly with Stanford Mechanical Engineering, Structural Biology, and SLAC

A postdoctoral position is available immediately, jointly between the Mechanical Engineering (Dr. Ellen Kuhl) and Structural Biology (Dr. Soichi Wakatsuki) Departments at Stanford University, and the Biosciences Division at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (Dr. Soichi Wakatsuki and Dr. Henry van den Bedem). The postdoctoral scholar will study the molecular mechanisms of traumatic brain injury by developing and applying experimental tools along with theoretical and computational approaches.

The Living Matter Lab in Stanford Mechanical Engineering designs simulation tools to predict the physiology and pathology of living systems using the fundamental laws of physics. The Wakatsuki lab in Stanford Structural Biology is advancing biomedicine using biology and chemistry at the molecular and cellular scales. SLAC is a multi-disciplinary laboratory, home to the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), the world’s first hard X-ray free electron laser facility, the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), and soon state-of-the-art cryoEM capabilities as part of a new Stanford/SLAC joint initiative. The SLAC Biosciences Division is a newly created division pursuing cutting edge biology research using X-rays, electron beams, and biocomputation. Both Drs. Kuhl and Wakatsuki are members of Bio-X at Stanford, an interdisciplinary biosciences institute at Stanford.

Qualifications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with protein biochemistry (protein expression, purification, and characterization) and structure determination (cryoET/cryoEM and preferably small angle scattering). Experience in biocomputation will be considered favorably. The ability to lead and conduct independent research, as well as work with a diverse team is critical for success in this project. The position will initially be for one year, with the opportunity to be extended.

Interested applicants should submit via email a single pdf with the following: A cover letter including a brief synopsis of your interests and career goals; a CV including research experience and publications; names and contact information for at least three professional references.
