[3dem] Facility Manager Position at Rutgers New Jersey Cryo Electron Microscopy and Tomography Facility

Dear 3dem collegues, 

The Center for Integrative Proteomics Research at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks qualified applicants for a Facility Manager position within the newly established Rutgers New Jersey Cryo Electron Microscopy and Tomography Facility.

The successful candidate will help support a dynamic user community drawn from Rutgers and nearby academic institutions. The 2000 sq. ft. Facility currently includes an FEI Talos Arctica with phase plate optics and automate cryogenic sample handling, a Gatan K2 direct detection camera coupled with a GIF imaging filter, a correlative light and electron microscopy unit, a Leica GP plunger, and other sample preparation equipment.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of the Center for Integrative Proteomics Research. Responsibilities of the Facility Manager include:
(a) All aspects of sample preparation for both cryoEM and cryoET projects;

(b) Instrument operation including image acquisition and microscope maintenance;

(c) Data analysis support, including image analysis, data processing, and structure analysis;

(d) Technical support for user project design, successful completion, and scientific publications;

(e) Facility management and User Training; and

(f) Other related duties.

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field, and at least 5 years of extensive hands-on experience in cryo-electron microscopy, biological sample preparation, and image processing. Candidates with core facility management or cryoEM engineer or application scientist experience are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal communication skills and be able to effectively work with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of scientific and cultural backgrounds. Grant writing experience is not required, but would be an asset for shared instrumentation grant preparation.
