Dear all,

Caltech has recently opened a full-time electron microscopist position. Summary and details can be found below. For additional information or to apply for this position, please see the full job listing on Caltech's website: https://jobs.caltech.edu/postings/5774

Job Summary:

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, California, seeks an electron cryo-microscopist Staff Research Scientist to manage and work within a new cryo-EM lab that will house a Titan Krios and Talos Arctica. The Krios will be equipped with a Volta-style phase plate, energy filter, and K2/3 Summit direct detector. These new instruments will complement the existing Tecnai G2 Polara (also with energy filter and K2 Summit direct detector) and Tecnai T12. Caltech is a top-ranked, vibrant research institution in the heart of Southern California with established strengths in structural biology and cryo-EM.

Job Duties:

  * We are looking for highly motivated candidates with demonstrated experience in all aspects of high resolution single particle analysis methods, including image processing.

  * As manager of the Krios lab, the successful candidate will train users, order consumables, care for instrumentation, track usage, bill users, prepare reports, and help write proposals. He/she will meet with potential users, discuss projects, and help choose experimental approaches.

  * For some projects, the successful candidate will train others extensively and then guide them as they do the work themselves. In other cases he/she will receive samples and do all the cryo-EM from sample preparation to imaging to image processing to writing paragraphs and preparing figures about the work for publications. Most of the projects will be single particle analyses, but others will involve tomography and micro-ED.

  * Some evening and weekend work will be necessary to take full advantage of the instruments.

  *   Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualification:

The successful candidate should have previous facility experience working with students, postdocs, and faculty in EM research and education, with excellent oral and written English communication skills.

Applicants should provide a brief statement of relevant research experience in cryoEM.

Cheers,

Grant Jensen
