Two postdoctoral positions are available in Po-Lin Chiu's group at the
School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU). The lab
will physically locate in the Biodesign Building in Tempe campus. Our
research focuses on the structural studies of membrane proteins, especially
those of the receptor complexes in neuron axonal regeneration, and the main
structural approach will be utilizing both single-particle cryo-EM and
electron crystallography. In parallel, we are also interested in the
technical development of cryo-EM method.

The ASU has its well-known name in the long history as an international
leader in electron microscopy. The facility of the John M. Cowley Center
for High-Resolution Electron Microscopy will install a new Titan-Krios
equipped with a Volta phase plate and a Gatan K2 direct electron detector
this October (see list: https://le-csss.asu.edu/equipment). The FEI F20
electron microscope in the center will also be ready for biological cryo-EM
use with modification. For EM sample screening, the CLAS Bioimaging
Facility has a Philips CM12 and a JEOL 1200EX electron microscope (
http://rts.clas.asu.edu/em). The CLAS facility also has the high-pressure
freezing equipment for sample preparation for electron tomography as well.
In addition, the ASU also has a pioneer group leading the studies on
femtosecond nanocrystallography using X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL), and
we will have an excellent collaborative environment between structural
biophysicists with different backgrounds.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in the biology-related field or
physical sciences. Preferred successful candidates will have the
experiences in:
    1. overexpression and purification of mammalian membrane proteins;
    2. (optional) cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography experience;
or
    1. optics/photonics;
    2. signal processing (especially in pattern recognition);
    3. (optional) programming skill in HPC demand.
The applicants must be self-motivated and team-oriented working with other
lab members.

Applicants are invited to send their curriculum vitae and a list of contact
information for two references to Po-Lin Chiu, Ph.D. (plchiu at asu.edu).
