Dear All,

A Post Doctoral Research Associate post is available in the Randall Division of Cell and Molecular Biophysics in collaboration with the Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging (CUI) and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Excellence at Kings.
This project will investigate mitochondrial-ER interactions and correlate dynamic behaviour in live cells and within intact tissues using light microscopy (LM) with direct correlation to the nanoscale architecture by electron microscopy (EM).

This aims to elucidate the role of specific molecules in controlling heart disease through organelle dynamics, function and subcellular positioning. The candidate will develop an operational pipeline to apply Correlative Light Electron Microscopy (CLEM) analysis to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate intra-organelle communication at the nanoscale.

The successful candidate must have an advanced background in electron microscopy and ideally in using and applying electron microscopy to study proteins within cells or tissues and should have advanced knowledge and skills in tomography and cryo-tomography. A good grounding in basic cell biology and an understanding of cardiac and organelle biology would be highly advantageous.

The CUI has recently undergone a major refurbishment to establish a new state of the art research capacity located on the King's Guys campus and provides a unique research environment with studies spanning molecular, structural and cellular biology. This is further enhanced by an active instrument development collaboration between JEOL, Nikon and King's.

The selection process will include a presentation and a panel interview.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role please contact Prof Maddy Parsons (maddy.parsons at kcl.ac.uk<mailto:maddy.parsons at kcl.ac.uk>) or Dr Roland Fleck (roland.fleck at kcl.ac.uk<mailto:roland.fleck at kcl.ac.uk>). I will be attending EMC2016 in Lyon France and would be happy to meet for an informal discussion during the meeting.

Best wishes

Roland
