Cryo-EM Facility Manager

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) <http://www.biochem.mpg.de/en/institute> in Martinsried near Munich, Germany  is currently establishing a new cryo-EM facility. Expressions of interest are sought for the role of a microscopist/EM facility manager (f/m) for structural cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) with a focus on single particle analysis.

The primary responsibilities will be to deliver and support the day-to-day operation of a recently acquired FEI Titan Halo instrument and the management of the newly established cryo-EM facility. The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of electron microscopes and associated equipment and will provide expertise, support and training in cryo-EM to enable and contribute scientifically to related research and ongoing programs/projects of the Institute.

• extensive experience in the operation of transmission electron microscopes at best the operation of a cryo-TEM (experience with any FEI Tecnai and/or Titan microscope would be beneficial)
• experience handling cryogenic samples and sample preparation for cryo-EM
• skills in manual and/or automated image acquisition for single particle analysis and/or cryo-electron tomography
• good communication and presentational skills and the ability to manage and interact with staff and facility users at all levels

The successful candidate will be offered an attractive salary package and excellent benefits and conditions of employment. It will be based on qualifications and the salary structure of the TVöD (public service tariff scale). Initially the contract will be offered for a 2 years period with the possibility to become tenured.
