The Structural Biology and Protein Chemistry Department at Genentech Inc.
South San Francisco, is looking for a Scientist with expertise in
scientific programming, a background in protein sciences and a passion for
innovative, impactful work.  The candidate will liaise with scientists and
software engineers as a collaborator, project team member, a scientific
resource and consultant with expertise in data integration to existing
internal tools, statistics, computational analysis of protein-related data,
and design of laboratory information management systems (LIMS).  Embedded
in our Protein Sciences group, the successful candidate will work closely
with structural biologists, biochemists and protein purification experts in
support of small molecule and large molecule drug discovery and basic
research. Candidate must be a technical expert in programming, have
significant experience in a protein-related field, and be interested in
developing and implementing technology and process improvements in these
areas.  Experience with databases, compute clusters, and data analysis
tools are desired.  Knowledge of software development life cycle is a plus.





The successful candidate will have many of the following characteristics:

·       Ph. D. in computational biology, structural biology, protein
chemistry, or related discipline with at least 3 years of relevant
postdoctoral/industry experience

·       Strong, demonstrated scientific programming and scripting skills.

·       Evidence of productive, creative contributions in science, as
demonstrated by a strong record of publication and/or software development.

·       Be goal-oriented, highly organized, motivated, work independently
in a collaborative team-oriented setting

·       Have strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
