*Post Doctoral Researcher - Structural Biology**(Ref: 11136)***

*Full time, fixed term appointment for up to 3 years *

**

We are seeking a motivated and creative Post Doctoral Researcher (Level 
2) to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of kinesin motors in the 
mitotic machinery of fungi. This work is funded by the BBSRC and will be 
performed as part of the research team led by Dr Carolyn Moores.


The project involves molecular structure determination of 
microtubule-based machinery using cryo-electron microscopy and image 
reconstruction. This work presents unique opportunities to gain insight 
into the mechanochemistry of essential mitotic motors in fungi, thereby 
providing a platform for future investigations of novel fungicides, in 
collaboration with Prof. Gero Steinberg (Exeter University). The 
appointee will be a member of a team working on regulatory mechanisms of 
cytoskeleton dynamics (http://people.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/~ubcg62d/ 
<http://people.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/%7Eubcg62d/>)and of the Birkbeck Electron 
Microscopy group.

Applicants should have a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry or a 
related area, and have relevant research publications.

*Salary: *Grade 7, £31,331 to £36,298 per annum (depending on 
experience), plus the London Allowance of £2,976 per annum.

**

This is a full-time and fixed term position for up to three years. The 
appointment may be subject to a probationary period of six months.
