Assistant Professorship in Biology

The Department of Biology (www.biol.ethz.ch<http://www.biol.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites
applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professorship in:

Structural Biology / Biophysics (Electron Microscopy / Single Molecule
Spectroscopy)
The Professorship is expected to build an internationally competitive,
innovative research program within the Institute of Molecular Biology
and Biophysics (IMBB; www.mol.biol.ethz.ch<http://www.mol.biol.ethz.ch>), which provides an excellent
scientific environment and access to state-of-the-art equipment.
Research areas of interest include studies of bio-macromolecules and
their cellular context using single particle cryo-electron microscopy or
single molecule spectroscopy. Funds will be available for startup
equipment for single-molecule studies; for electron microscopy,
transmission electron microscopes (including an FEI Tecnai G2 F20 cryo
and a Titan Krios) will be available within the Electron Microscopy Center
of ETH Zurich.

All candidates are expected to contribute to the teaching activities of
the Department of Biology at the Bachelor and Master level, and the
interactive, scientific environment at ETH Zurich. The new Professors
will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German or
English) and graduate level courses (English).
At ETH Zurich, positions at the Assistant Professor level are aimed at
promoting the careers of young Professors and at giving them the
opportunity to gain further scientific qualifications in view of an
academic career. The initial appointment is for four years with the
possibility of renewal for an additional two-year period.

Please apply online at www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch<http://www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch>. Your application
should include your curriculum vitae, a list of publications, the names
of at least three referees, and a short overview of research interests.
The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH
Zurich, Prof. Dr. Ralph Eichler. The closing date for applications is 31
January 2012. With a view towards increasing the number of women in
leading academic positions, ETH Zurich specifically encourages women to
apply.
