Workshop Report: Data Management Challenges in 3D Electron Microscopy 
(DMCEM).

The Protein Data Bank in Europe (PDBe) and the Open Microscopy 
Environment (OME) organized a consultative workshop at Hinxton Hall, 
Cambridge, UK on 5 and 6 December 2011 that brought together an 
international group of experts to discuss the growing challenges of 
archiving, sharing, transferring, analyzing, viewing, validating and 
annotating 3D EM data. The meeting participants agreed that the 
EMDataBank should take the lead in addressing these issues, and concrete 
action points were agreed upon that are already having an impact on the 
accessibility of 3D EM data in biology and medicine.
