Practical Course on Image Processing for Electron Tomography
Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL
May 18-20, 2011
Organizer: Hanspeter Winkler
Speakers: Kenneth A. Taylor, Scott Stagg

We are pleased to announce our first course on image processing for electron
tomography. The course will focus on the practical aspects of tilt series
alignment, 3D reconstruction, and 3D volume data analysis. Introductory talks
will cover theoretical and practical aspects of tomography and tutorials will
provide hands-on experience in the use of the "protomo" software package for
marker-free alignment, and the subsequent subvolume alignment and
classification.

The course is targeted at scientists working in the field of electron
tomography. Participants are expected to be familiar with the basic principles
of electron tomography and image processing, specifically in a UNIX/Linux
environment, and are encouraged to bring their own data sets for processing.
Opportunity will be given to present results.

The course is free of charge, but participants must cover their own travel and
lodging expenses. The number of participants is limited, and candidates are
therefore encouraged to apply early. Please send your application to
winkler at sb.fsu.edu by April 30th and include a brief description of your current
research.
