Dear Colleagues:
Two postdoc/research associate positions supported by a new 5-year NIH
R01 grant are available immediately in the Department of Biological
Structure, University of Washington. This project focuses on the
structural study of membrane proteins. The newly developed "random
spherically constrained" (RSC) single-particle cryo-EM method will be
employed to study membrane protein structures in membrane environments.
The RSC method has been successfully applied to obtain the structure of
the large conductance voltage- and calcium-activated potassium (BK)
channel in a lipid membrane (Nature, 461, 292-295).
Position 1: The research of the position focuses on the improvement of
this method and the application of this method to other membrane
proteins. Experience in membranre protein expressiong and purification
is desirable, and experience in electron microscopy and image processing
is preferable.
Position 2: The research of the position focuses on the software
development. Some programs have already been developed in Matlab
environment, and some advanced algorithms need to be implemented. After
validation, the software will be tranfered to Python environment as a
stand-alone package. Experience in software development including
scientific programing, parallel computation and graphic user interface
is desirable. Knowledge of electron microscopy is a plus.
Interested candidates should send CV and reference information to
LW32 at UW.EDU.
If you know any potential candidate, please feel free to forward this
message to him/her.Thank you for your help.
