Description
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is in search of a cryo-EM Research Facility Manager to help set up and manage a new cryo-EM facility. The primary responsibilities will include maintenance of electron microscopes and associated equipment, the training of users and the computational analysis of single particle and tomographic data.
UTEP is committed to establishing a highly competitive structural biochemistry program with state of the art facilities that include X-ray crystallography, NMR and cryo-electron microscopy. As part of this initiative, a new state of the art cryo-EM facility has been built in a new chemistry and computer science building. Installation of a new JEOL 3200FS microscope equipped with a cryo stage, a field emission electron source, omega energy filter and a 4k x 4k CCD camera is scheduled to begin soon. Other associated equipment includes a Fishione M1020 Plasma Cleaner, a Gatan CP3 cryo-EM plunger, an Emitech K950X Turbo Evaporator and Glow Discharge system, a Ted Pella PELCO easiGlow Glow Discharge system and access to a fully equipped biochemistry laboratory adjacent to the new cryo-EM facility.

Qualifications
The candidate should have an advanced degree in life sciences, engineering, materials science or a related field of science. Furthermore, the candidate should have extensive training in the use and routine maintenance of electron microscopes as well as expertise in specimen preparation techniques. Previous experience in cryo-EM and image processing is also highly desired. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are important.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All applications will be considered.
