Dear 3dem community,

as this interesting discussion also showed a comparison of CCD cameras
vs the good old film I want to add up two documents.

They include data also of imaging plates (IPs). IPs are able to replace
negative film completely and produce highest resolution digital images.
They use the normal film camera (installed at every TEM in the past).
IPs can be seen as almost ideal electron detectors. They have a large
imaging area compared to CCDs, high quantum efficiency combined with low
background noise and a dynamic range of about 6 magnitudes. Their main
disadvatage is that the IPs have to be scanned externaly with a IP-scanner.
