Senior Research Scientist - Life Science 

Location:  Boise, ID or other West Coast location

The Mission 

The Sales and Service Division (SSD) of FEI is charged with selling and
servicing FEI products in geographical territories worldwide. The SSD
Organization serves as the primary FEI contact to both potential
customers and current customers alike, providing a range of value-added
products and services, such as applications support to maintain the
highest levels of customer satisfaction. 

The Position 

The FEI Research Team works closely with top specialists in electron
microscopy at research centers and institutions around the world,
ensuring that early adopters of new FEI Technology become successful in
achieving optimal results from their microscope. Research Scientists
serve as a scientific ambassador for FEI on site at the customer
location. Operating at the cutting edge of science and nanotechnology at
and in cooperation with leading research institutes on Materials Science
and/or Life Science, the Research Scientist is responsible for the
acceptance of the system, advanced customer training and the
(scientific) results achieved. Research Scientists will make our
customers successful. Research Scientists may work at several high level
customer locations around the world. 

Responsibilities and deliverables include: 
-Facilitation of the tool installation and acceptance at customer sites 
-Co-design of new applications with the customer and with key
technologists within FEI 
-Deliver content for application notes and achieve published scientific
results 
-Execution of demonstrations and sample analysis at customer locations 
-Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable
solutions 
-Create "Best Known Methods" and training manuals 
-Deliver scientific and other publications (papers, conference) 
-Provide R&D and product teams with application information and customer
feedback, contributing to next generation features and functionality 
-Maintain and nurture solution expertise (technology, methodology) for
all markets 

Position Requirements 

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of
education and experience: 
-Typically requires an advanced degree(PhD)in Life Science with
experience in Materials Science, Chemistry and or Physics with strong
post academic background demonstrating expertise in critical microscopy
application areas 
-10 years experience in high-end electron-microscopy used in an advanced
research (academia or industry)environments. Cryo TEM and samples prep
required. Knowledge of correctors and advanced analytical techniques
desirable 
-Proven record of published articles and papers 
-Experience interacting with customers, service, marketing and R&D 
-Self-conscience and determined 
-Capacity to work independently as well as in teams 
-Strong communicative and inter-cultural skills (verbal and non-verbal) 
-Potential for frequent travel between FEI Offices to learn more about
our technologies
