[3dem] (spider) web on mac os

Has anybody been able to run (spider) web on mac os leopard or snow-leopard?
I am having problems with leopard 10.5.8 on a MacBookPro. The X11 crashes
every time I execute the web starter script web_osx_24 in the directory
web/bin. X11 is not on the dock (as required by web) when I initiate
web_osx_24. I am currently using spiderweb.18.03.
