Staff Scientist in cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography

The Facility for Electron Microscopy Research (FEMR) at McGill
University is seeking a staff scientist specialized in cryo-electron
microscopy and cryo-tomography to lead world-class research.

The staff scientist will work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative
research environment using state-of-the-art instruments that include a
FEI Tecnai G2 F20, a Titan Krios and ancillary equipment for sample
preparation. The candidate will play a significant role in establishing
the Titan Krios in the facility, training new users as well as
contributing to the strategic development of the group through
interactions and collaborations with other groups in McGill University,
Canada and internationally. The candidate is expected to participate in
ongoing research projects and will have the opportunity to develop their
own research.

Job responsibilities comprise all aspects of cryo-EM and cryo-ET and
include specimen preparation, collection and processing of data,
low-dose protocols, tomography and single-particle work, and
computational image processing (single particle and tomography).
Extensive experience in the single particle and/or tomography approaches
is essential. Additional experience in electron crystallography (helical
and 2D crystallography), automatic data collection, conventional use of
a wide variety of TEM's, and the training and supervision of users is a
definite plus.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in the life sciences or equivalent
with a minimum of 5 years experience. Excellent communication skills and
ability to work with other researchers and graduate students are
important.

Annual salary ($50,000 to $60,000 plus benefits) is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Ideal starting date would be September 1,
2009.
