We are seeking a structural biologist for structural studies by electron
cryo-microscopy of  SPP1 bacteriophage before and after DNA ejection induced by
the receptor. Structural analysis of some elements of the bacteriophage using
electron microscopy has been published  in EMBO Journal (2003: 22(6) 1255-1262;
2007: 26:1984-1994; 26:3720-3728)

The post is  full time, fixed term appointment for up to 3 years in Dr Elena
Orlova’ lab funded by BBSRC. Experience of cryo-electron microscopy and
three-dimensional image processing of single particles is highly desirable.
Applicants should have a PhD in Structural Molecular Biology, Biophysics or a
related area, postdoctoral research experience and relevant research
publications.

The EM group at Birkbeck forms a major part of the structural biology programme
of the Institute of Structural Molecular Biology, with many collaborations on
the structures and functions of macromolecular complexes.  Excellent facilities
for biochemistry,  computation, and electron microscopy are available in School
of Crystallography including a T10, T12,  F20 cryomicroscope and a 300kV field
emission gun  microscope (Polara) will be installed this summer.
