A Workshop on Advanced Topics in EM Structure Determination
November 10 -16, 2007

National Resource for Automated Molecular Microscopy
The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), La Jolla, California.

We invite applications to participate in a Workshop on Advanced
Topics in EM Structure Determination. The course is aimed at
students, postdocs and junior faculty that already have experience
practicing cryoEM. We can accommodate ~50 participants.

A major goal of the course will be to discuss some of the challenges
in cryoEM that remain to be solved, including improvements in
specimen preparation, imaging, processing and reconstruction required
to reach higher resolutions and solve small structures with limited
symmetry or conformational variability. The basic format of the
course will be theoretical lectures in the mornings followed by
practical demonstrations and panel discussions in the afternoon.
Evenings will be reserved for poster presentations by student
participants and research talks by instructors.

The instructors for the course include: Francisco Asturias (TSRI),
Tim Baker (UCSD), Bridget Carragher (TSRI), Anchi Cheng (TSRI), David
de Rosier (Brandeis), Ed Egelman (Virginia), Joachim Frank (Albany),
Yoshi Fujiyoshi (Kyoto), Bob Glaeser (Berkeley), Niko Grigorieff
(Brandeis), Steve Harrison (Harvard), Richard Henderson (MRC), Jack
Johnson (TSRI), Elizabeth Kubalek (TSRI), Steven Ludtke (Baylor), Ron
Milligan (TSRI), Pawel Penczek (Houston), Clint Potter (TSRI), Fred
Sigworth (Yale), Ken Taylor (FSU), Vinzenz Unger (Yale), Nigel Unwin
(MRC/TSRI), Thomas Walz (Harvard) and Mark Yeager (TSRI).

Applications forms may be found online at the workshop web page:

http://nramm.scripps.edu/seminars/2007/cryoem/
Applicants are asked to provide a CV, publication list, a short
description of their current work and future plans, and a preliminary
title for their poster.

A registration fee of $500 will be charged to participants from non-
profit institutions. All meals will be provided as part of the course
registration fee but participants will be expected to cover their own
travel and lodging expenses. Cost of housing is approximately $60/
night for a shared room. The course organizers will help coordinate
room sharing arrangements.

The application deadline is 1 July and a final selection of
participants will be made by 1 August.
