*Post-Doctoral Position in Single Particle Analysis.*

We are looking for a suitably qualified candidate to fill a position in
single particle analysis of transcription complexes in joint project
between the University of Newcastle and the Institute of Molecular
Biosciences, University of Queensland, Australia. The position will be
initially available for 2 years. Salary from A$57,579 depending on
experience.

The post-holder will investigate a number of transcription complexes of
RNA polymerase using cryo-electron microscopy, in conjunction with Drs
Peter Lewis and Renate Griffith at the University of Newcastle and
A/Prof Ben Hankamer at the University of Queensland, Australia.

RNA polymerase is a target for the design of anti-microbials and the
structures obtained during the course of the research proposal will
serve as templates for the design, synthesis and validation by
biochemical and structural analyses of novel anti-microbials. Prior
experience in cryo-electron microscopy and single particle analysis
desirable and training will be provided where necessary.

The post-holder will be based in Brisbane for the EM studies, and will
also be expected to make regular trips to Newcastle for consultation
with the project coordinator Dr Peter Lewis and co-investigator Dr
Renate Griffith.

Brisbane is rapidly developing and one of the most popular cities in
Australia, enjoying a year-round sub-tropical climate, with easy access
to wonderful beaches, islands and rainforests. The new Institute for
Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland
(http://www.imb.uq.edu.au/) houses the Advanced cryo-EM facility which
has, extensive electron microscopy facilities including a Tecnai F30,
fitted with a 4k CCD camera and GIF, T12 and host of other EMs and an
extensive array of ancillary equipment. In addition, the lab of Ben
Hankamer has substantial image processing facilities.

Newcastle is a coastal city famous for its surfing beaches found ~100
miles (160 km) north of Sydney situated at the mouth of the Hunter
river, and adjacent to the world famous Hunter valley wine-growing
region. The city enjoys a very pleasant climate all year round.
