WELLCOME TRUST CENTRE FOR CELL-MATRIX RESEARCH
UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE *
(Ref - LS/009/06) *

*Starting salary between* £22,289 to £25,565

Funded by the BBSRC, this post is available within a research group
integrated into the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell-Matrix Research (
http://www.manchester.ac.uk/wtccmr
<http://www.manchester.ac.uk/wtccmr>), an interdisciplinary research
centre embedded within the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of
Manchester. The Centre was established in 1995 with the long-term aims
of elucidating the structure and function of extracellular matrices,
cell-matrix adhesions, and cell signalling pathways, defining the
contribution of cell-matrix interactions to human diseases, and
developing approaches for preventing and treating these diseases.

The project will investigate the structure and assembly of collagen VI
microfibrils **which play a vital role in connective tissue structure,
connecting cells and matrix components. A range of biophysical
techniques will be involved. You should be highly motivated, have a PhD
in structural biology or biophysics and ideally have practical
experience of either cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray scattering or X-ray
crystallography. The research will be carried out in the newly
constructed Michael Smith Building which houses state-of-the-art
facilities. Closing date: 17 February 2006.
