Special Issue on Software Tools for Macromolecular Microscopy

Bridget Carragher and Fred Sigworth, Guest Editors

The Journal of Structural Biology invites submissions to a special
issue on Software Tools for Macromolecular Microscopy. It has been
10 years since the first JSB Special Issue on Computational Image
Processing (JSB Volume 116 (1996)) which, as with two following
Special Issues (Vol 125/2-3, 1999; Vol 144/2-3, 2003) on closely
related themes, has been a valuable resource to the research
community, to judge by the high citation frequencies. Several of the
groups who support and are further developing the major image
processing software packages have already agreed to submit papers
describing the current state of their software. We encourage
contributions from everyone who is active in developing software for
macromolecular microscopy and distributing this to the community. We
also encourage and welcome contributions on new algorithmic
approaches; computational tools related to tomography; and novel ways
to integrate EM and crystallographic data. We hope that the result
will be a Special Issue that will again serve as a major resource and
reference for the computational tools related to macromolecular microscopy.

Please contact either Bridget Carragher
(<mailto:bcarr at uiuc.edu>bcarr at uiuc.edu) or Fred Sigworth
(<mailto:fred.sigworth at yale.edu>fred.sigworth at yale.edu) if you wish
to discuss the suitability of a paper prior to submission or if you
have questions or suggestions related to the Special Issue.

The deadline for receipt of manuscripts is: 1 April 2006 with a
proposed publication date in the Summer of 2006. Manuscripts will be
peer-reviewed using the criteria of the Journal of Structural Biology
(see
<http://www.academicpress.com/jsb>http://www.academicpress.com/jsb).
Submissions should be sent electronically via the journal Web site
(<http://www.elsevier.com/locate/yjsbi>http://www.elsevier.com/locate/yjsbi;
e-mail: <mailto:jsb at elsevier.com>jsb at elsevier.com). Please state in
your covering letter that the paper is intended for the Special Issue
on Software Tools for Macromolecular Microscopy.
