A post-doctoral position is available in the
Astbury Centre at Leeds University, UK to study a
large protein-DNA complex by electron microscopy.
The project will mainly use cryo-electron
microscopy and single particle analysis. It is
planned that much of the cryo-EM data will be
acquired using Leginon automation software, which
is implemented on a Tecnai F20 microscope with 4k
CCD camera. Initial screening of a variety of
experimental conditions will use negative
staining and preliminary reconstructions of the
complex have already been obtained from stain
data. In addition to the F20 microscope, 4 other
TEMs are available, 2 equipped for frozen
specimens. Data is analysed on a 150 processor
linux cluster.

The post is funded for 5 years at a starting
salary of £26470 (~$US46k). Experience with
cryo-EM and single particle image processing is
desirable, but applications from other relevant
disciplines, such as materials science and
physics, are also encouraged.

Leeds University has one of the largest and most
vigorous structural biology groups in Britain
(see www.astbury.leeds.ac.uk). The University has
25000 undergraduates and 5000 postgraduates.
Leeds is a thriving city and surrounding
countryside is outstandingly beautiful.

This post will be advertised in Nature shortly.
