Postdoctoral Position at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston,

Houston, TX

A postdoctoral position in cryo-EM and 3D reconstruction is available immediately to study structure/function relationships of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II. Our laboratory has produced and published low resolution structures for each of the four mammalian isoforms of this kinase. We now seek to produce high resolution structures of each complex to relate the known functional differences of each isoform to their structure. We will additionally determine the structure of the activated and autophosphorylated forms of this kinase as these forms are responsible for regulating diverse cellular functions.

The laboratory is equipped with a F30 Polara G3 300 kV helium cooled electron microscope with data collection facilitated by a 4K x 4K Tietz CCD camera. This fully functional instrument resides in a new facility shared with other members of the Center for Imaging Molecular Structures.

The laboratory is located within the world renowned Texas Medical Center. Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States and has rich cultural and ethnic diversity. Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine are within a two block radius of the Medical School and the local academic environment is rich in structural biology.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and experience in electron cryo-microscopy and image processing is required. Experience in three-dimensional reconstruction and protein purification is preferred, but not essential. Excellent written and verbal skills are expected. The position is open immediately, but the candidate must be qualified for future NIH training grant support (permanent resident status or U.S. citizen).
