Terje, I agree with you.  It will be almost impossible for them to trademark the phrase "protein tomography" as we would normally use it in our field to mean tomography of proteins.  I have looked at the article Joachim mentioned, and interestingly they also use the phrase in this normal sense within the text of the paper.  The most they could get away with (I think) would be market software with this name.

My understanding of trademark legislation (which is not much, I admit) 
is that you cannot trademark "generic" terms, like regular words, 
common descriptive phrases etc. It would seem to me that the term 
"protein tomography" wouldn't pass the test? (And certainly not 
"electron tomography" which is a common descriptive scientific term) At 
least here in the US. Sounds pretty iffy to me.
