Three positions in electron microscopy are available in the Astbury
Centre for Structural Molecular Biology at Leeds University. Two
posts are for post-docs to do single molecule microscopy and are for
two years in the first instance, but may be extended. One post
involves work on the myosin-actin contractile system. The other is a
new project on the exocyst complex.

The third post is for three years in the first instance and is likely
to become permanent. This is for a high level technician whose main
task will to look after a new FEG microscope, including teaching new
users.

For all three posts EM experience, including familiarity with cryo-EM
sample preparation and single particle reconstruction methods, is
desirable. However, training will be given where necessary.
Applications from other relevant disciplines such as materials
science are also invited. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The EM facility at Leeds has 5 TEMs, including a Tecnai F20
cryo-microscope with 4k CCD camera currently being installed. EM work
at Leeds is specialised in high resolution microscopy of proteins
and single particle image processing. We also have expertise in
time-resolved cryo-EM of proteins.

Leeds University has one of the largest and most vigorous structural
biology groups in UK. The University is large (25000 undergraduates)
and Leeds is a thriving city. The surrounding countryside is
outstandingly beautiful.
