POSITIONS IN HIGH-RESOLUTION CRYOEM

Opportunities for three Senior Postdoctoral Research Scientists to join a
group specializing in structural studies of biological macromolecules using
cryo-electron microscopy. The laboratory is located at Lund University,
Sweden (http://www.lu.se) The work is partly funded by SWEGENE
(http://www.swegene.org) as a part of a functional genomics program. The
positions are available for an initial period of three years.

Position 1 (ref nr 4807): The researcher will be responsible for and
co-ordinate data collection from mainly membrane proteins and large
molecular assemblies. Previous experience of high-resolution electron
microscopy is essential. An adequate background for optimising routines for
efficient and high quality data acquisition will be an advantage.
Familiarity with biological specimens will be positively evaluated but is
not a requirement. Applications from individuals with a record of excellent
research achievements and technical skill in both biological and other
high-resolution EM fields are welcome.

Position 2 (ref nr 4808): The researcher will be responsible for and
co-ordinate image processing of EM data from both crystalline specimens and
individual particles. Previous experience of structure analysis from
electron microscopy data is essential. An adequate background for
optimising routines and equipment for efficient and high quality processing
of electron micrographs will be an advantage.

Position 3 (ref nr 4560): The researcher will be responsible for work on
large molecular assemblies. Previous experience from cryoEM structure
analysis of ensembles of individual particles is essential.

The laboratory will be equipped with one 120 kV and two 300 kV FEG electron
microscopes, one of them having liquid helium specimen cooling. Facilities
for molecular biology, biochemistry and X-ray crystallography are also
available at the laboratory situated in a stimulating academic environment
encompassing the largest chemical centre in Scandinavia and the MAX
synchrotron. Apart from the traditional university, Lund has also seen the
growth of many new and established research-intensive biotechnology
companies. It forms an important node in the dynamic Medicon Valley
(http://www.mediconvalley.com) including academic institutions and
commercial enterprises on both sides of the strait between Sweden and Denmark.

Applications with curriculum vitae and other documents should be sent to
the address below. Please, state the reference number of the position as
above or give a priority order if you are interested in more than one of
them. Closing date 23 October 2002.
