Faculty position in Structural Biology
    with special interest in CryoEM

University of Auckland, New Zealand.

----------------------------------------------------------

Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor
Structural Biology
School of Biological Sciences
Faculty of Science

Vacancy 1285

The School of Biological Sciences seeks applications for a tenured
position in structural biology involving specialisation in cryo-electron
microscopy and image processing.

The School of Biological Sciences has developed strengths in genomic and
proteomic research and has recently established an X-ray diffraction
laboratory that has rapidly grown to 25 staff and graduate students. The
School now wishes to extend its structure determination capability to
include a variety of functionally important macromolecular assemblies as
well as membrane proteins that are difficult to crystallise in three
dimensions but may be induced to form two-dimensional arrays. Newly
refurbished facilities include state-of-the-art equipment for specimen
preparation, a Philips CM12 and a Tecnai 12 TEM, the latter equipped
with Gatan cryostage and digital camera. Several Research groups in the
school investigate biomedically relevant proteins and protein assemblies
that provide the opportunity for collaborative interactions with the new
appointee. The aim is to achieve medium resolution structures and to
collaborate with specialised microscopy centres for high-resolution
work. The appointee must have the ability to build collaborative
projects internationally.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD or equivalent qualification,
and have experience in cryo-electron microscopy and the application of
computer software packages for structure determination. The appointee is
expected to develop their own research, attract external grant funding,
supervise graduate students and contribute to the Schools teaching
programme.
Appointment will be made at lecturer, senior lecturer, or associate
professor level depending on qualifications and experience.

Further information on the School, it’s resources and staff can be found
