A dream and a job

We had a dream : Vitrifiying a biological tissu, cryo-sectionning and
obseving it with exquisit details by cryo-electron microscopy and
reconstructing it in 3-D at nm resolution (Dubochet at al.1988. Quarter.
Rev. Biophys. 21, 129-228). After many years, the dream seems to come
true. We think it will be the next major break through in electron
microscopy. See : Dubochet, J. & Sartori Blanc, N. (2000) Micron 32,
91-99; Studer, D. & Gnaegi, H. (2000) J. Microsc. 197, 94-100; Öand
those in press!

The Laboratory for Ultrastructural Analysis at the University of
Lausanne is looking for a

- PhD student ready to learn a demanding technique and willing to
develop it further during a 3-5 years doctoral thesis. Preliminary
experience in cryo-electron microscopy would be an asset but is not
required.
or a

- Post Doctoral scientist experience in cryo-electron microscopy (but
not necessary in cryo-sectioning) desiring to be amoung those who make
the dream become a reality.
The selected candidate will participate in a researche project on cell
membrane dynamics and will continue the work for caracterizing and
optimizing electron microscopy of vitreous sections.

PhD students salary is ca. 37-46 K SFR./year. The post doctoral position
is for 2 years and will be paid ca. 70 K SFR/year. The position is
available now.
